File: aabnl_01.txtSUBJECT: SAC INTERVIEW WITH HERMAN MARTIN, SAC/HOL INTERVIEW WITH HERMAN MARTIN, SAC/HOL, 22 AUGUST 1991 (U) Cairo West required the most work and became a true bare base deployment. Flight operations depended on SAC engineers getting the field ready. At Jeddah New, personnel were billeted in eight compounds around the city causing command and control problems feeding the troops. About 570 personnel suffered food poisoning on 24 January. The suspected cause was food provided by a local vendor. Seeb was the least of our problems. Located next to local supply point, material was ready available for engineers deployed to Seeb. Diego Garcia suffered from wind and rain damage that destroyed 70 percent of tent city. C-5s brought in expandable shelters that SAC engineers and host base workers erected. Diego Garcia dining hall was a "state of the art" facility in which it could be used for storage and within three days transformed back to a dining facility. [(b)(2)] Mr. Bob Fox HQ-SAC/OdoRX
