File: 110796_aacta_01.txtEMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT AT USAF CASUALTY COLLECTION POINTS OF OPERATION DESERT SHIELD CASUALTIES EXPOSED TO NERVE AGENTS - INSURE ALL CASUALTIES ARE WEARING THEIR CHEMICAL MASK. . -- SIGNIFICANT SYMPTOMS : --- respiratory distress --- Convulsions --- Loss of consciousness --- Obstructive airway secretions --- Cyanosis --- PROFOUND weakness --- Abdominal cramps -- Casualties with RESOLVED OR MINIMAL (all other) SYMPTOMS (whether or not they have used chemical antidotes) --- Runny nose --- Eye pain, blurred or dim vision --- Salivation --- Muscle twitching/fasciculations --- Headache --- Nausea --- Sweating --- Diarrhea - - IF THE TACTICAL SITUATION ALLOWS, TREAT casualties with SEVERE _ SYMPTOMS as follows: -- Insure the casualty has received 3 Mark I Kits (3 ATROPENS and 3 Pralidoxime COMBOPENS); if the casualty has not or you are unsure inject three Mark I Kits -- Inject the contents of one (1) 10 mg pre filled DlAZEPAM (VALIUM) syringe DEEP into the mid-anterolateral muscle of the thigh - -- If the casualty is CONVULSING, IMMEDIATELY inject a second 10 mg dose of DIAZEPAM LtCol Ealkenheimer/SGHR/7054/ [(b)(2)] /15 Aug 90 .
