          PURPOSE: To provide summary of significant news items which may
          warrant attention or indicate public perceptions - veracity of
          information is unknown
          
           CNN
          
          - Israeli schools opened again for the first time 1n 10 days
          - Iran's parliament speaker called for cease-fire in Gulf
          - U.K. military reports Jaguars destroyed Silkworm missile
             site in Iraq
          
          - General Schwarzkopf conducted daily CENTCOM briefing in
               Riyadh showing GBU-15 film of attack on oil manifold 1n
               Kuwait which is strategy to stop flow from Sea Isle

         -- Oil fire (started by US attack on patrol boat) at Sea
               Isle terminal is decreasing, probably to decreased flow
               although it will take 24 hours for oil in 13-mile
               pipeline to stop
               
         -- Two U.S. F-15 shot down four Iraqi MiG-23s near Baghdad

        -- Over 39 Iraqi aircraft have flown to Iran; Iran has
          assured U.S. they will be "confiscated" until war ends
                    
   ABC
   --- Gas contamination sensors detected chemicals among allied
        ground troops due drifting particles from bombed CW
        production/storage sites drifting over troop locations; no
      danger to troops, just sensitive sensors

   ---Egyptian national security advisor stated that only 10-15%
      of the Egyptians sympathize with Hussein
  ---Pierre Sallinger speculated that concept of European
     economic federation is about to collapse because of varying
     level of support for coalition by European countries (e.g.
     Belgian refusal to sell weapons to UK, German limited
    support and German companies previous sales to Iraq, etc.)
 
               - French support for President Bush's gulf policy
                    has shot up recently to 70%, the highest ever for
                   a U.S. president
