File: 970207_aadci_031.txtODS MEDICAL LESSONS LEARNED LOGISTICS CATEGORY LOGISTICS ISSUE NO. l Strat and Tac AE Kits (SGHR ITEMS NO. 42, 156, 171) BACKGROUND: Physicians, nurses, med techs, and medical supply personnel spent several thousand staff hours bringing AE kits up to current standards. DISCUSSION: The WRM program in the UK to support AE was described as a "major medical disaster." Contingency kits had been stored for over ten years in uncontrolled climatic conditions. Many critical items were not usable. TAs had been changed and inventory had not been updated. Due to CINCUSAFE imposed moratorium on WRM in Oct 89, USAFE Strat and Tac AE kits had not been configured IAW AF Medical Logistics Letter (AFMLL) 5-90, dated 23 Feb 90. RECOMMENDATIONS: Strat and Tac AE kits stored in USAFE should be consolidated at the 2AES (now at Ramstein AB GE) to simplify implementation of TA revisions. ACTIONS REQUIRED: AMC review TA for AE kits and evaluate storage locations based on new planning guidance for future scenarios. ACTIONS COMPLETED: AMC has addressed the AE kit TA requirements at a committee 30-Mar-3 Apr 92 and determined recommendations for fixing problems. AMC is currently working procurement of 400 AE kits that will be positioned at all AE units (AD, and ARC). These kits would then be deployed to the needed theater of operations with the AE unit. Remaining kits in the European theater are consolidated at the 2AES, Ramstein AB. STATUS: Open.
