ODS MEDICAL LESSONS LEARNED
             LOGISTICS CATEGORY
LOGISTICS ISSUE NO. 36 AOR MEDLOG Support Prior to MEDSOM Arrival
             (SGHR ITEM NO. 231)

DISCUSSION: Medical re-supply support was not available in the AOR prior to
arrival of Army MEDSOM. Local contracts were established. Support also
obtained from Pirmasens GE. The Army MEDSOM did not carry common use items
contained in the ATH. No concept of operations to re-supply deployed units
          prior to MEDSOM arriving.

RECOMMENDATION: HQ CENTAF develop a resupply CONOPs for the AOR to include
period of time prior to arrival of MEDSOM. Plan should address staffing and
location of supply points. Location of USAF re-supply points near metropolitan
areas will enhance local purchase of some required medical items. Establish an
AF liaison team that works with the MEDSOM after arrival to ensure AF
requirements are handled properly. Educate liaison team about Army operating
procedures is a must. CENTAF/CENTCOM 915XO manpower requirements must be
reviewed and updated to ensure sufficient bodies and skill levels are
identified to meet all needs within the AOR.

ACTIONS REQUIRED: None. The MEDSOM is a joint activity that was being used
for the first time. Lessons were learned that will improve future operations.

         ACTIONS COMPLETED: N/A.

          STATUS: Recommend closure.
