PERSONNEL ISSUE NO. 12 Primary v. Duty AFSC
          (SGHR ITEM NO. 104)

BACKGROUND: Duty AFSCs for health care providers are limited within ARC
medical units to those authorized on the UTC (e.g.:, 9326/9346, 9356, 9396,
9716, and 9756 for medical corps; and G9766 for nurses). The "real world"
specialty/subspecialty is indicated by the Primary AFSC for physicians. This
fact was made known to AF/SGHR-MRC prior to mobilization.

DISCUSSION: Mobilization led to receipt of many flight surgeons, who, in fact,
were board certified specialists o various types. Once realized, credentials
were reviewed/validated, and the specialists were utilized properly. The delay
led to lost capability within the MTF. ,

RECOMMENDATION: MTF identify specific needs and the matching ARC capability be
mobilized to that MTF wherever possible.

ACTIONS REQUIRED: MTFs identify specific backfill/expansion needs to MAJCOMs
for identification of ARC capability to be mobilized appropriately to that MTF.

ACTIONS COMPLETED: System has been modified to identify Primary AFSCs of ARC
medical providers to allow better utilization of mobilized personnel.

STATUS: Closed.
