           Policy Letter No. 4-5., Bottled Water Usage


     (U)  lst COSCOM is purchasing bottled water and stocking it to provide
      -antingency stock In case of a water shortage.

     (U)  Units will only use bottled water when no other source of U.S.
     @ved potable water Is available.  They will use it only for drinking
     3ther essential functions.   Units must receive the approval of the
       S-4 prior to drawinq water from the SS contingency stocks.,

     (U)  Units will make maximum use of available storage (i.e. 5 gallon
        --- a, water buffalos, canteens, storage and distribution systemsq
        ..ard area water point supply systems) to stockpile potable water.

     (U) Units with water purification equipment should identify water
      as,, have them approved. and begin water purif lcation as soon an


     (U)  The goal is to become self sufficient in water production and
      lbution as soon as possible.
