MEMORANDUM TO: COMMANDER XVIII CORPS (US) (ASN) I)TTN, 6-3

                   SUBJECT: Bottled Water

                   i. 3rd ACR requests that bottled water be continued at present rate
until further notice. 3rd ACR strongly disagrees with the courses of
action in your message dated 0714S2 Nov 90.

                   2. The advantage to bottled water is that it'i3 easier to transport.
Units can be resupplied with water forward by any vehicle. Presently,
the only vehicle that can transport bulk potable water forward is a
water trailer. The water in the bottle will remain potable until the sea
broken. With a water trailer there are many ways in which Ahe water
                          contami@e;.
--3@-1-i@ttled water is more easily transferred to forward_units during a
log pack. A box of water can be transferred to a vehicle quickly,
reducing the chances of'exposing the vehicle by reducing the time at
                   the log pack.

                   4. The lack of chlorination does not effect the potability if the
water bottle is kept sealed until consumption. Security for bottled
water is easier in that the only possible plate fbr contamination is
at the source, while bulk water can be contaminated
                 r).4pywhere in the distribution system.

5 Recommended courses of action: maintain current system.'
