If radiological survey determines that Depleted Uranium (DU)
contamination exist, the tank will be in isolation for
decontamination and will be unable to complete its mission.

          PERSONNEL/TIME REQUIRED:

          Maintenance Team Chief MOS 63E40
Radiological Protection Officer and Radiological Survey Team
Time determined @y location and amount of damage.

          MATERIALS/TOOLS:

AN/PDR-27 with the beta shield open, AN/VDR-2 (IM-243 meter
          and DT-616 probe), AN/PDR-64, AN/PDR-60, AN/PDR-56F (IH-
          16OF/PDR-56 meter and DT-59OA/PDR-56 X-Ray probe) or
          equivalent low-energy photon detection instrument.

NBC Contamination Marking Kit NSN 9905-12-124-5955

          PROCEDURAL STEPS:

          1. Assist any injured personnel.

                                     WARNING
The number of personnel who take part in the radiation
survey, damage assessment or vehicle recovery should be kept
to an absolute minimum. They are to be dressed in protective
coveralls, gloves, rubberized boots, and they are to also
wear the M26 or M17A2 protective mask with M13A2 filter
element and the accompanying head covers (i.e., Mission
Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) Level 4). The coverall
pant legs are to be worn over the rubber boots and sealed
with tape at the ankles. Likewise, the sleeves are to be
slipped over the gloves and taped. The edges of the hood are
to be draped over the coveralls and taped to them and to the
place where it contacts to respirator. Also, any remaining
openings are to be sealed with tape. The Radiation
Protection Officer (RPO) will supervise during this dress-up
          procedure.

                                       NOTE

The local RPO or NBC NCO should notify the unit maintenance
armor damage
to determine whether the exposed armor area is special armor
          or contains DU.

          2. A radiological survey of the ground should be conducted
          with an AN/PDR-54, AN/PDR-60, AN/PDR-56F (IM-16OF/PDR-56
meter and DT-59OA/PDR-56 X-Ray probe) or and equivalent low-
energy photon detection instrument. The probe must be hold
as close to the ground surface as possible without coming in
