                             JULLS LONG REPORT

          1. (U) JULLS NUMBER: 51327-85095 (00001), submitted by 307 ENB
          (WABGAA)s SFC Ortiz, 239-7880, (919)432-7680.

          2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD/STORM conducted by CENTCOM on
          05/14/91.

          3. (U) KEYWORDS:

          4. (U) TITLE: Shortages of Decontamination Equipment

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: The current authorization of
decontamination equipment in the engineer battalion is
          insufficient to sustain the -Force.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: After all the division task forces'
engineer requirements were completed it was noted the amount of
equipment on hand was too large to conduct decontamination
operations with internal assets to include divisional'assets.
The division chemical company does not have enough assets to
conduct decontamination operations for the separates units. The
chemical company is only authorized 3 x smoke/decontamination
platoons, (I x maneuver brigade). Additionally the battalion is
not authorized M17 Sanators like the infantry battalions.

          7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: As an interim action the battalion
made a plan to use the 2 x 613B Water Distributors (1,500 water
capacity) assigned to the 618th Engr Co to conduct limited
          decontamination operations.

          S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Modified the 307th Engr Bn and
618th Engr Co (LE) MTOE to have I x M17 Lightweight
          Decontamination Apparatus (LDS). Additionallyrequest addition
of two 54B skill level one soldiers (I x HHC/307 EN and 618 EN
Co) to operate the M17 LDS. This equipment and personnel will
greatly enhance the ability of the engineer battalion to conduct
          hasty decontamination operations.

          9. (U) COMMENTS: Request consideration of one M17 LDS with
operator for all battalions in the division. This addition will
assist the chemical company and divisional battalions to
conduct decontamination operations and other support missions
          when needed.
