          2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD/STORM conducted by CENTCOM on
          05/14/91.


          3. (U) KEYWORDS: EQUIPMENT PLATOONS

          4. (U) TITLE: Routine Affiliation of Equipment Platoons

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: Deployed brigades needed dedicated
          equipment packages to accomplish their Engineer BOB missions.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: We always attach an equipment package to
          line platoons in support of task forces, whether it be for JRTC,
          EXEVALS, or real contingency missions. Without it, their
          ability to support the task force would be degraded. Routine
          affiliation of equipment units would improve the efficiency and
          team cohesion of the engineer "team" supporting the task force.

          . (U) LESSON LEARNED: Practice routine affiliation (habitat
          association) whenever possible.

          B. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Institutionalize the practice of
          equipment platoon affiliation within the Division, as below:

          Dozers, 2 x MICLIC, and 2 x Flipper mine dispensers. In
          addition, engineer support to MSC's should be dedicated as below:
