          MMORANDUM FOR ADCS

          SUBJBCT: Medical Support Backbrief, AVM Bde


          1. A medical backbrief and readiness review   was held at Avn Bde on 14
          Feb 91, with the Bde Surgeon. Enclosed is a copy of the status report
          which evaluates the medical support on a scale of 0 - 100% readiness.

          2. Some areas of note include:

              a.  Medical Supplies - shortages of some supplies for combat life
                  savers continue. Efforts to procure these Items from CORPS
                  are ongoing.

                  Actiont Division Surgeon will contact CORPS Surgeon for
                           release of the supplies for this purpose.

              b.  Medical Surveillance - a medical surveillance program for
                  Identifying  unusual. Incidence of disease Is in place. It Is
                  designed to assist In identifying the use of biologic weapons
                  and other disease threats. The brigade has not received the
                  SOP.

                  Action: The Division Surgeon will provide copy of the SOP to
                           the Bde Surgeon and the Bde will begin implementation
                           within 48 hours.

              c. -Controlled Substances - the brigade has outlined a method
                  for tracking controlled  @tances but has    not finalized an
                  SOP.

                  Action:  The  Bde Surgeon will write an SOP and provide a copy
                           to  the Division Surgeon within 48 hours.

          .,3. Overall, the medical readiness of the Bde is good.
