                  Reninrks: There arc 100 to 200 reported cases of acute licpnittis annually, mostly attdl
                      A virus (HAV). HAV is circulating widely, although possibly at a lower level than previously
                      especially in Manama, because of improvements in sanitation. Antibodies occur In an esarmt
                      75 percent of children by age 10 and in almost 100 percent of adults. 7lic annual Incidence of aclit 'a'
                      hcpatitis A cases is increasing, due partly to a slightly larger nonlmmunc child population and to
                      the continued circulation of [tic virus. /uilibodies to licpnuds B virus (HBV) occur fit 20 to 40
                      percent of the population. 7le HBV carrier rate is estimated at 2 percent. The delta agent @iDV)
                      has not been reported, but is s@ctcd, Parcnicrally-tr-insmi(ted NANB hepatitis (itepatitis C or
                      IICV) is reported sporadically, but enterically-transmlttcd NANB liepntitis is not reported. liAV,
                      IIBV, and HCV are Lnajor health limrds to nonindigenous personnel.

                  Other infectious diseases -Tuberculosis (endemic, although the annual incidence has been declining
                      (100 cases in 1988) and the prevalcrce Is low, estimated ;it 0.1 to 0.2 percent); ii-nctiomit (common,
                      butincidcnccdecliningbccauscofcontrolmcasurcs);soll-trntisnittie(ilitliiiilittleinfections
                      (roundworm and wliipworm infections occur, but the Incidence Is very low (less titan 5 percent);
