Risk Period/Distril)uflon: Transmission occurs from November to April, with an Increased Incidence
in December. Transmission occurs at die inland oasis of Al Ayn, and on (fie cost coast along the
Pulf of Oman (only 5 percent of [fie population lives In ttialarious areas). Most of the cobtitty
(Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Oic west coast) Is risk-free.
Remorks- After the elimination of malaria on the west coast by an acgvo control I)Mgmm, tile annual
incidence declined rapidly, from over')?,OOO cases In 1978 to 3,516 cases in 1984, Since 1984,
the annual incidence has remained constant (there were 3,056 cases In 1988; however, more than

some of the imported cases arc caused by P. falcipanini. Cases arc reported year-round, and the
incidence increases from May to July.
ARBOVI RAL FEVERS (3 to 5 days)

was unknown. There have been no further studies to detect additional unrelated cases or serological
