         1.       XVIII ABN CORPS HAS AN URGENT NEED FOR LARGE AREA WARNING

         DEVICES. THERE rs CURRENTLY NO WAY TO EFFECTIVELY WARN SOLDIERS

         DISPERSED OVER LARGE AREAS OF AN IMMINENT CHEMICAL ATTACK. LAND

         LINE, COURIER AND LOCALLY PROCURED SIRENS DO NOT PROVIDE TIMELY

         WARNINGS.


         2.       REQUEST YOU CONTACT THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

         (FEMA) REGARDINS THE PURCHASE OF CIVIL DEFENSE SIRENS. THE REQUIRED

         SIRENS ARE NOT AVAILABLE UNDER AMDF. THESE SIRENS SHOULD REQUIRE


         LIMITED INSTALLATION TIME, BE ADAPTABLE TO MULTIPLE POWER SOURCES

         (110, 220, 24V) AND HAVP VARIOUS SIGNALS (LONG TONE, BROKEN WAIL) TO

         INDICATE TYPE OF ATTACK ICW STANDARD WARNINGS IN THE JCEOI. THEY

         SHOULD BE OMNI-DIRECTIONAL AND HAVE AN AUDIBLE RANGE OF 2-3 KM. FEMA
