              M. AIR LIASON OFFICER

                  1) OBSERVATION: Communications waa a major concern
                      during long-range cross-FLOT air reconnaissance
missions. In cooperation with the Air Force, A-
10 aircraft provided that communications link and
were a great confidence builder for the
                      helicopter pilots.

                  2) OBSERVATION: The preplanned CAS process was not
effective because of the requirement to submit
requests 48 hours in advance. Proplanned
requests should be required not more than 24
                      hours in advance.

                  3) OBSERVATION: Milvans required for transport of
Air Force vehicles were not available. As a
                      result, communications pallet equipped vehicles
had damage or missing equipment when off-loaded.

                  4) OBSERVATION: The Air Force detatchment arranged
for and received adequate ammunition and
pyrotechnics prior to deployment. However, due
to security and transportation problems, it was
left behind. The solution is to identify
requirements early so that they may be filled
                      through Army channels.

                  5) OBSERVATION: The Air Force TACP's need a faster,
more mobile vehicle on the battlefield to keep up
with the maneuver units. The current M113 is
                      inadequate.

                  6) OBSERVATION: TACP's at brigade TAC's need
protection from incoming fires not provided by
the HMMWV. A Bradley-type vehicle would provide
                      both protection and speed.
