          2. (U) No type OPN DESERT STORM NOTES conducted by 24 IN DIV (MECH)
          on 05/20/91.

          3. (U) KEYWORDS: MULTI-FUEL ENGINES,

          4. (U) TITLE: MULTI-FUEL ENGINES

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: Use of JP-1 resulted in damage to diesel
          fuel pumps and filter systems.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: JP-1 was readily available in theater,
          diesel was not. Therefore we substituted JP-1 for diesel.
          Diesel injector pumps began leaking and filter assemblies
          cracked.

          7. (U) LESSON L    ED: JP-1 is not a good substitute for diesel
          in present US Army small diesel engines. DF-2 is preferred.

          8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Use only DF-1 or DF-2 fuels in
          multi-fuel engines if possible.
