            on 05/20/91.

            4. (U) TITLE: TACSAT MULTICHANNEL HUB

            5. (U) OBSERVATION: Maintain TACSAT Multichannel hub in a safe
            place when limited by the 20-foot dish.

            6. (U) DISCTJSSION: Satellite configuration required us to use a
            20-foot dish on the hub system. This dish has limited
            trafficability on rugged terrain and if the hub breaks, the
            system is down.

            7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: We left the hub behind the LD throughout
            the attack and redeployment to the port of Dannan. Outages were
            minimal during this period. severe outages or loss of the
            system would have resulted from transporting the dish through
            the rugged Iraqi desert.

            8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION:
                a. That additional satellites be procured to allow use of
            more mobile eight foot dishes.

                b. That future situations may allow leaving the hub at Fort
            Stewart or similarly protected place to ensure constant reliable
            communications.

            9. (U) COMMENTS: Either get permission to use smaller dishes
            for the hub system or protect it absolutely.
