Parent Organzation: VII CORPS

provided us by the VII Corps. Moreover, we had 'lo pos:txor, our MEE
base node centers near a Corps Signal Center (CASC) to establish a
GATEWAY, which permitted us to use MSE and dial direct into the old
PCM system. These factors became a limitation and heavily influenced
our signal plan. In short, the old PCM system reduced ou-
                 flexibility from the outset.

                                   - COMMAND POST AND MSE INTEGRATION -

Our employment of the MSE system and'the dispacemen@ o@ d:v-.s-or
command posts were syncronized to support accomplishment o4 our
mission. Initially, the DMAIN and Jump MAIN co-located with a Corps
CASC Node to the east of the division's assembly area, FAA. -'UTTS.
Co-location provided us the capability to wire directly into the
Corps PCM system, freeing us from having to employ the mu!t:cnanne:
TACSAT system which the 93d Signal Bde provided us. This was ):eV.
The multi-channel TACSAT team moved with the Jump MAIN to keep us
linked into VII Corps after the DMAIN displaced. The DTAC followed
the 2d Bde. The Jump TAC planned to move forward at B-1 ([3 Day
ground attacl: day), co-locate with 2d ACR TAC CP forward of the
border, and coordinate our passage through the line of departure,
(the Iraq-Saudia Arabia border berms 10 - 12 feet high). We planned
to position Node Centers 14 and 15 just south of the border about 5
km to form a base of communications and provide a gateway into Corps
                 PCM system.

We positioned Node Centers 60, 61, 62, and 63, along with local
and remote RAUS, forward in 2d Bde, which afforded them protection.
Then, as the 2d Bde advanced in zone, we planned to drop off the node
                 centers every 30 - 35 km. (See diagram 2)

As we crossed the LD, the Jump TAC and DTAC planned to move
continually in stride with the 2d Bde, with one CP set before the
other moved. The Jump MAIN planned to move initially to Node Center
60, then when set, the DMARN would bound to Node Center 61. Once the
DMAIN was set, the Jump Main planned to bound to Node Center 63,
bypassing Node 62. Once the Jump MAIN CP was set at Node Center 63,
with multichannel TACSAT operational CPCM commo witfi VII Corps) , the
DMAIN would also bound to Node Center 63 and join the Jump MAIN.
Subsequently, we planned to pull in Nodes 14, 15, 60, and 61 within
OBJ COLLINS, where we expected to remain for 2-3 days before VII
Corps committed us east or northeast against the Republican Guards.
From OBJ COH INS, we planned to extend the MSE system east, north, or
northeast in the sane fashion described above, based on the enemy
                 situation and our mission.

Here's the rub. The movement and placement of the Jump MAIN and
DMAING was constrained from the beginning by the fact we had to have
either a hard wire, PCM link, or multichannel TACSAT link with VII
Corps TASS system to receive written orders, and vital intelligence
summaries, as well as current intelligence for deep targeting and
deep operations. We had only one multichannel TACSAT to provide th.,E
