9 November 1990, 3 Armored Division (3 AD) announced the decision that it
would deploy to Southwest Asia (SWA) and the Kuwait Theater of Operations
(KTO). On 13 November, the 3 AD issued its warning order to the RFCT (3 AD
Warning (2rder 90-10 (Deployment to Saudi Arabia)).
On 20 NOV 90, the RFCT issued OPORD 90-17 which outlined the brigade's
accelerated training program While in Be@y. ThL, RFCT CDR-s intent was to
have units execute both individual and collective training programs using the
Mission Essential Task List (METU as the standard for the brigade. The
commander put the focus on the following areas-. refuel on the move (ROM),
maneuver (battle/crew drills, movement to contact, meeting engagements,
atta@ defend), sustainment (logistic--aD operations, and staff actions. The
RFCT made arrangements for the battalions to use SIMNE7 and TACMASS. At the
Task Force/battalion (TF) level there was increased emphasis an UCOFT
training, NB@ first aid, call for fire, demolitions, mine field preparation,
TCGSTs BGST, etc. AU soldiers received classes on the Code of Conduct and an
orientation on Saudi Arabia and the KT(L
On 26 NOV 90 the brigade issued OPORD 90-16 (Advance Party Deployment)
nd on 29 NOV 90 FRAGO I to the same OPORD. On 27 NOV 90, the RFCT received 3
AD OPORD 90-10 (Operation Desert Shield). B@ gave the RFCT the structure
for deployment by establishing part support teamss supercargos, advanced
parties, as well as providing information on rail loading time frames. The
following were the rail loading dates and -destination/part for each TF/Bn:
