had their NBC protective equipment issued, and TA-50 inspected. Combat
vehicles were uploaded with their basic load, while other vehicles and
containers were loaded up and prepared for deployment.
The RFCT Port Support Team consisting of 100 soldiers (3n each from 3-5
CAV and 5-5 CAV and 20 each from 4-32 AR and 4-34 AR) departed on 13 DEC 90.
The Part Support Team was OPCONed to VII Corps upon arrival to Saudi Arabia.
They performed duties at both the Port of Al Dammam and the Port of AL Jabayl.
On IS DEC 90, the RFCT Advance Party deployed to the KTO. The contingent
consisted of 190 soldiers: 30 per battalion plus 10 from the RFCT HO's. Their
mission was to conduct reconnaissance and subsequent quartering of the
Tactical Assembly Area (TAA). They were also to facilitate in the port
arrival of equipment and personnel and establish liaison with appropriate
agencies. In addition to a C2 cell, led by the BDE ExecutivL- Officer (MAJ(P)
Hebert), each TF/BN had the -Following representation within its advanced
party: maintenance, inventory control, intelligence, medical, mess, and
company quartering teams.
On the 19 Dec 90, the RFCT conducted a rehearsal in Karlstadt Gym (Ayers
Kassern). The focus was on Refuel on the Move (ROM), doctrinal brigade
movement to contact formation, and TF/Bn formations. The RFCT's key
leadership received daily intel briefings in addition to staff progress
reports of the brigades deployment to KTO.
Between 27 Dec 90 and 05 JAN 91 the RFCT's main body deployed to SWA by
both commercial and military airlift. The Aerial Part of Embarkation -For the
RFCT was Rhein Main Air Force Base (RMAFB) in Frankfurt, Germany. Soldiers
assembled at Karlstadt Gym where they were given two bag meals, loaded their

they were processed to their assigned aircraft. Following a seven hour flight
(average), soldiers arrived at either the Dharan International Airport or the
King Khalid International Airport. From the Aerial Port of Debarkation,
soldiers from the RFCT were taken to the Port of Dammam for in-processing
through the Ist Infantry Division (Forward) in-processing Center (Warehouse 20
at the port facility). In actuality, in-processing simply involved the senior
occupant checking in with the RFCT Liaison, who then assisted them in
determining where the soldiers would be billeted.
