      direction of tft Bde S-3 coordinated all the battlefield operating systems
      managers to support the fight. The brigade S-3 ran his operation from his
      HMMWV as did the other BOS system managers. The Bde TOC co-located with
      the S-3 ran a "hatt' TOC in a ramp to ramp configuration Throughout the
      fight communication'with all units was excellent, reporting was accurate,
      and operations ran in clockwork fashion.
            At 261900 the ADC(M) directed that the brigade push forward to keep
      pace with he lst brigade an its +lank. The brigade commander tried to
      explain the situation and his concern about possible ambushes ahead of
      this bunker complex.   Early reparts'+rom interrogations a+ enemy
      prisoners of war by the Bde S-2 indicated that the brigade was facing a
      possible armor ambush behind the main bunker line defense. At 261955, tKv
      brigade S2 completes templating this possible tank ambush and the brigade"'
      commander. By-262048, the employment of Army aviation helicopters
      (OH-58D and Apache attack helicopters) confirmed an armor ambush v         \1
      QU709253 and actions were immediately taken to destroy these tank[    and
      BMPS. AT 2200 the brigade conducted a deliberate assault of the b
      complex following extensive artillery and attack helicopter attacks. By
      262200 the results of extensive artillery, CAS, and attack helicopters
      left a reported 30-40 burning vehicles and numerous secondary explosions.
      During this time (approximately 2200hrs) the CG realized the extent a+ 2d
      Bde situation and allowed the brigade to continue its deliberate attack.
      At 262355 until approximately 270300 TF 4-le defeated an enemy
      rntinterattack located alone the seam between TF 4-le and TF 4-9 CAV.

several counterattacks by
      the
      Iraqis, most of which where in the TF 4-18 sector. Numerous acts of
      heroism highlighted the brigade actions to include rescue of wounded
      crewman under fire, repair of vehicles under +ire, and close range
      destruction of enemy forces that managed to infiltrate near friendly
      vehicles. AT 270300 the Bde commander directed that 3-8 CAV OPCON a tank
      company to TF 4-18 to guard the TF left flank from further
      counterattacks.    The battle continued throughout the night with each
      battalion/TF engaging dismounts, vehicles, and processing EPWS.
           At 270345 FEB the division commander directed that the 3d brigade
      would pass through the 2d brigade and continue to attack through the 2d
      Brigade zone I)ucina the night the brigade staff coordinated the passage
      of line whil         uing to fight the battle and maintain contact with
      enemy force            the passagL-.TF 4-8 and 3-8 CAV reported enemy
      contact to               e briagdo continued to direct the use of
      artillery,             ack helicopters on these enemy observations. During
      this passag            n the 3d Brigade TAC was co-located with the 2d Bdo
      TAC and monitoring the battle. At 1045FEB91 the 3d Bde conducted a
      forward passage of lines under +ire relieving the 2d Bde in contact.
      Throughout the battle the 2d brigade sustained 2 KIAS. 6 WIAS, and
      retained a 99% combat power status.
