vehicles burning in front of C Company. To the front, a high lip of ground
masks terrain forward of D Company. To the right, at more than 4km, 4
unidentified vehicles, along with wheeled vehicles and dismounts, are
leaving the area moving north to South.
At 2247 ILT Lawson can see 3rd Platoon of C Company start the first
bound of the evening attack. C Company follows the movement, bounding
forward 150m. Once D Company starts moving, CPT Fletcher can tell by his
GPS that the task force is moving at 45 degrees instead of at 90 degrees.
He reports this to LTC Hallman, and the misdirection results in a turning

        movement-during the next 2 bounds.
The first bound allows D Company to see over the lip to their front.
More burning vehicles are seen in front of C Company. ILT Lawson
identifies a bunker and several cold vehicles to his front. He fires HEAT
with no target effect. Si7C Steele on D14 and SSG Dials on D12 engage
dismounts hopping from hole to hole at 400 to 500m. Their coax zero is oii
from the long movement and must adjust their zero as they fire.
2nd Platoon reports sporadic machine gun fire to their front as SSG
Bird of D22 fires HEAT into a bunker at 800 to ?00m causing 30 dismounts
to jump Out. SSG Dials and ILT Lawson fire HEAT into another bunker at
900m, "stirring a bees' nest." Twenty dismounts come out and are engaged
with coax by@ Dli, D12, and D13. It is apparent to ILT Lawson that the
Iraqis are unaware of the magnitude of the advantage of the thermal
sights. ILT Lawson chases troops with coax into bunkers and fires HEAT to
destroy the bunker and the dismounts within. Tanks are engaging dismounts
with coax as they peek their "hot" heads out from behind their fighting
Positions. SFC Butler o+ DZ4 engages dismounts to his front with coax.
