       track. SSG Sturm continues to fight in spite of his injures. D66 has a

       Chunk of metal torn from one of its nonballistic skirts.

           As D Company comes on line, CPT Fletcher assigns 3rd Platoon to tic in
       with 3-SCAV with one section on the right. lLT Binderim, the Company
       Executive Officer, drops back to ensure coordination between the company
       combat trains and the attached Vulcan track providing a ground security

       mission.

           D company comes    on line as C Company is withdrawi-ng,@forcitig-D Company

       to back up 50m to come on      line again. D23'si  TC, SSG Colson,  identifies a

       hot spot to his front but      cannot range due to the dust. SSG    Colson fires

       at the possible BRDM using a multiple return bar range of 820m and misses.

       He inde)ies 1000m, fires and misses. CPT Fletcher orders him to stop

       wasting ammunition. The FISTV is eventually able to laze to the target,

       which is at 4000m.

           As the sun goes down D Company conducts a refuel. Dust is now starting

       to   clear    to make lazing possible. 2LT Moore looks LIP to See a

       +Iare/illumination round hit left of his position, hit right of his

       position, followed by accurate airburst indirect. D Company buttons up

       again until the mortar/artillery ceases.

           Refuel is conducted approximately l.Skm to the rear of the tanks.

       This provides enough distance and security for tank crews to rotate of+

       their tanks -For a brief respite. The medic M113 locates halfway between
       the tanks ane,-ttiL- -FuLIers. The medics guide the tanks by radio back to the
       refuel point-th-preclude misorientation for D Company. In the darkness and
       confusion several of C Company's tanks attempt to refuel with D Company.

           As the refuel is conducted by sections. ILT Lawson of lst Platoon sees
