            D @ech is travelling east to the rear of the Task Force 4-SCAV diamond

        shaped Movement to Contact formation. They are in a staggered column with

        -.rd Platoon leading, followed by the Company Commander, FIST,.Ist Platoon,

        Egecutive Officer, and 2nd Platoon. The task force combat trains follow

        Mech in a combat column. D ML-ch's mission is to provide rear security tc

        the task force and act as the task force reserve.

            Twenty minutes after the initial contact reported by the scouts D Moch

        stops and forms a herringbone formation, providing 360 degree security.

        Dismounted   patrols go out with AN/PVS-7s in preparation for night

        activities.


            At 1734 D Mech receives groundburst indirect fire. All crews button --to

        while D22 suffers a p     unctured 5 gallon can and 2 cracked periscopes-,

        driver's and I in the hull. To CPT Przybyzewski, the indirect appears to

        be light mortars.

            Twenty minutes later CPT Przybyzewski receives reports from his

        Platoon leaders about more indirect and possible tank fire. The fire turns

        out to b @-@om friendly 155SP and MLRS +iring to their right rear. When

        that
             fire cLwAsbs, so does the enemy indirect.

            Shortly before 1900, PFC Shadix, the gunner for D14, spots 15 to 20

        hotspots coming towards the right flank at 3 to 4km. Above them he sees 4

        red and white flares. The vehicles are partially bunched, with some as far

        apart as 40om. The report is sent to the task force TOC and later that

        night Apache helicopters are seen attaching the vehicles. Secondarv
