            A Company of 'he 12th Engineers is 'in a combat column behind D Mech in
          the task force Movement to Contact Formation. A Company's mission is to
          serve as the on order breach force 'for Task Force 4-SCAV. The combat
          column consists of seven vehicles on the left side tnd six on the ri      t.
          The -Four squad M113s are travelling with cargo hatches open for s ad
          members to observe. All vehicles with radios are on the engineer company
          net. The lead venicle, 2LT Caldwell's M113, and the Company Commanders
          M113 are also on the task force command net.
             As the scouts make initial contact with the enemy, the engineers
          follow behind D Company as they deploy on line, stopping 1000m behind
          them. The engineers herringbone and remain mounted. CPT Peterson, the
          Engineer' Company Commander, observes the 3-SCAV scouts stop in line even

          with the engineers
             As D Company deploys, RPG and mortar/artillery fire hit. Airbursts hit
          100m to the front right of 2LT Caldwell's track with no effect. A Company

          buttons Up.
             CPT Peterson monitors on the TF net that C.Company is withdrawing. He
          sees at l@       6 scout M-7s come "screaming back" on his left to form up

          behind him.
             .The Engineer Company creeps back 500m to maintain a 1500 to 2000m gap
          with D Company. CPT.Peterson can see the CEV and AVLM cross attached to
          Company  400 to 500m on his left- 3-SCAV scouts are still even with th
          company as the tanks move up alongside D Company.
