On December 6th Headquarters Battery, Divarty convoyed it's wheeled
vehicles to Mainz where they were loaded o-i barges for transportation to
port and subsequent shipment to the Saudi Arabian port of Damman.
On IS December, the HHB advance party composed of two officers and
'ourteen enlisted soldiers departed HLttier Kaserne VIA commercial bus
enroute to Ramstein Air Base. The flight departed at 0200 hours on the
!9th, and after one stop in Paris, France landed at the King Fahd airport
in Saudi Arabia. It was 1035 hours European time and 1235 hours local
time. The advance party was transported to, and housed in "Cement City",
a complex of tents just outside of the port city of Damman. The advance
party tracked incoming equipment -For the Divarty, and gathered in-Formation
on the port and Division policies and procedures. @he Divarty main body
began arriving on the 26th of December and was also housed at in tents at
Cement City.
While at Damman the soldiers of Divarty became acclimated to the
environment, conducted individual training and processed equipment through
',tie port. All these activities prepared the unit +or t smooth deployment
4rom port to the TAA.
On 30 December, the Divarty dispatched an officer and five enlisted
men as the advance party +or movement to the Division Tactical Assembly
Area.
At this point, Phase I of 3D Armored".D'a' vision's OPLAN 91-1 went into
effect. The six phases of the plan were as follows:
Phase 1: Movement from the Ports to the Tactical Assembly Areas
Phase 11: Movement to the Forward Assembly Areas (FAA).
Phase III: Passage of the Iraqi obstacle system.
Phase IV: Movement from the FAA to Objective Collins.
Phase V: Destruction of the Republican Guard Forces Command (RGFC)
Phase VI: Defense of Northern Kuwait.
The Divarty advance party moved with the 42D FAB advance party, and
collocated with the 42D FAB upon arrival in the 3D Armored Division's
Tactical Assembly Area (TAA) Henry. The route to the TAA out of Damman
moved north, 11,@ier turned Northwes,,t on the Tapline road. Once the tapline
reached Ha-ar- til Batin, the route turned south (MSR Sultan) anc! lead past
the King Khal.:. r-li'itary City (II'MC). The TAA was located another 10
miles south of KF,MC and directly east off of the main road. Upon arrival
in the TAA, each un@t was required to send a representative to the OTAC to
be briefed on "Rules of the TAA". There were no exceptions.
The Division Tactical Command Post, the DTAC, moved to the TAA the
third wee;, in Decefnhei- .i-ic! was in control of all operations. Brigadier
General Paul E. BlacPwell, the 3D Armored Division Assistant Division
Commander for Maneuver (ADC-M) was in Command of the TAA.
There were two entrance points to the TAA from MSR Sultan, one at MSR
Red and one at MSR G-een. Pot[-. were manned by Military Police -From the 3
