units in addition to the 3 AD units. The TAA was divided by a series of
Main Supply Routes (MSRS) named after colors (Red, Yellow, Green, Black,
Blue, and White) and marked by barrels painted the appropriate colors.
Each Brigade was assigned a sector in the TAA. 2D Brigade was in the
north, 'ST Brigade in the east, 3D Brigade in the west, and the Combat
Aviation Brigade (CAB) in the South.
Each maneuver brigade had it's Direct Support Artillery Battalion and
an attached 0-36 radar from F Battery, --33 FA in it's zone. The Divarty
advance party selected a position in the central part of the TAA (grid NR
913736) approximately 1.5 miles southeast of the 42D FAB . F Battery, 333
Field Artillery, the Divarty*s Target Acquisition Battery (TAB) would
colocate with the HHB Divarty. This centralized Divarty location
facilitated command and control of subordinate units and provided easy
access to the DTAC, DMAIN, 42D FAB and two MSRS. A pos4tion in the
southern sector of the TAA was selected for A/40 FA, grid NR 822554, based
on guidance -From the (ADC-M), BG Blackwell. The position wks coordinated
with the Combat Aviition Brigade which owned the southern portion of "he
TAA. All 42D FAB delivery units were positioned in the north central part
of the TAA and BS Blackwell wanted fire support assets n the south. At
this time there was intelligence which indicated that a possible limited
Iraqi attack down the Wadi Al Satin with an objective of KKMC could 'be
mounted. In early February, the Division cut FRAGO 1 to 3 AD (3PLAN 171-2
(OPERATION DESERT GUARD) which covered this contingency in detail.
The advance party personnel picked t4p,,tents from Dvision, and
latrines and showers from KKMC in preparation for the main body. The mail
accounts were opened, and mail wa-3,picked up for the three separate
batteries. Each of the Direct Support Artillery Battalion advance parties
conducted the same type of activities. The DTAC held a meeting -Jail@- a',:
IEOO hours. Each Brigade and separate battalion was !,equ:red to seno k
representative. All Division staff sections provicec; b:-iefings the tne
ADC-M. In addition, discussions revolved around the status of Division's
combat power in the TAA, as well as logistics, equipment and personnel
convoys enroute to the TAA from port, and the distribution of tents,
navigational devices, other supply items, and newspapers. Ammunition
issues also received attention and high priority.
As of 9 January, the 42D FAB became attachec! t= t,ip ist CavRir@,

and the 1-27 FA (2-29 FA had not yet arrived in @c@-ce @. -,AP.).
On the 10th of January, the Division went to a lieic;.ite!-.ed state cf
alert. As of 0900 hours the Corps Commander directed 'wo actions: First,
double all security at logistical bases, Rnd sec@,r@'@v @tand-to
procedures effective at 0500 hours daily. Sta-id-tc, complete v;a,.B reported
to Division by 0530 hours, and Division reported t,-, Vil Corp.. 1,@ 06('-C
