Crossing sites across MSR Sultan were controlled by the ARCENT Military
Police and 3 AD Military Police would guide 3 AD units to the lanes which
led across the Wkdi Al Bitin.
On G-5 the the first serial of the Division would depart their
temporary AA at BMNT and continue west, then turn north, cross the Tapline
Road, link up with their advance party and close into FAA Butts by
evening. Meanwhile, the remainder of the Division composed of 3D Brigade,
IST Brigade, and the DISCOM would clear TAA Henry, proceed along the same
a:cis, and occupy areas in the vicinity of the same temporary AA's used by
the -First seriil. The I AD and 2 ACR would also close into their FAAs in
time not to interfere with the 3 AD movement.
At G-4 the second serial would depart at BMNT, -follow the route
used by the first serial and close into the FAA later that evening.
However, since the Division required such a great deal of space, the 3D
Brigade and DISCOM would occupy positions in FAA Butts to the South of
Tapline Road. At this point the Division would be completely closed in
it's attack position.
At B-2 the Division would be prepared for combat. And -Fintlly,
on S day, there would be a consolidated attack across the front.
The plan for the consolidated attack on (3 Day was later changed by
FRAGO 46, dated 11 Feb. This FRAGO liseOK!the -7 AD attack at 6 I. As
the situation eventually developed the attack would in fact occur for all
units on 6 Day.
On the 13th of February it was announced that the Division was 4?' r7-
.ninus eight (B -8).
On the 14th of February Phase II (Movement to the FAA) of the
operation commenced. The HHB advance party departed TAA Henry at 0800

encountered severe traffic congestion on MSR Sultan. This was due in oart
to the massive movement of VII Corps units west across MSR SLIl@a'l.
However, the Iraqis also launched two SCUD missiles at Hafar Al SaT.ir
which may have had an impact on the situation. The convo@ parl:ed @n
Sultan with hundreds of other vehicles *or over eight hours. At
hours on the 15th, the advance party secured and occupied FAA BL-tti. --kT
grid NS 306854 and reported closure to Dauntless, the DTAC. Radio wctc.,.
was established and guards were posted. ..
After sunrise on the 15th, the Jump Tactical Operations Cc-nx:er
was established. That evening guards were posted on top of the 5 7an
Eypandable Van with PVS-7 night vision devices. They were tc.
out going fires of friendly units to the north and east. On the 16th n4
February the advance party survey section set up Survey Control Points
(SCP) in each proposed DS Artillery Battalion position. Face to face
coordination was made between the advance party OIC and the OTAC. Tti@r
ne>,t day the HHB closed into FAA Butts. This marked the end (-)4
