ANNEX H (PREVENTIVE MEDICINE) TO 244TH MEDICAL GROUP DESERT SHIELD
OPERATIONS ORDER 001 (U)
4 UNCLASSIFIED
1. (U) General. To pro and guidance for Preventive
Medicine Support of units assigned or attached to the 244th Mad Gp.
2. (U) Concept of Medical Threat. The environmental health threat
is large in scope and is compounded by the enemy's ability to use
BW/CW munitions. Health status of enemy troops is currently
unknown. Loss of the infrastructure of public/health works will
render both military and civilian population at risk. Exposure of
Dislocated Civilians (DC) and Enemy Prisoners of War (EPWS) may be a
health hazard.
3. @Concept of Support.
a. (U) Individuals. Will perform individual preventive
medicine and will follow command guidance concerning water
consumption, work-rest in a desert environment.
b. (U) Units. Will place on orders and train a field
sanitation team for each company size unit. This team will monitor
compliance with PM directives.
c. 244th Medical Group will assist in assessing compliance
of PM directives and monitor the PM status of the command.
d. The 12th AM Team and its assigned/attached units will
provide theater PM support.
a. (U) Immunizations. Theater wide administration of repeat
immunizations will be established and implemented on a priority and
avaiable basis IAW ARCENT MEDCOM (Prov) guidance.
4. (u) Responsibilities.
a. (U) Unit Commanders. Responsible for the health and welfare
of their soldiers. Reduction of the medical threat can be attained
by following PM guidance.
b. (U) Medical Units. Will provide timely information for
disease/injuries received/admitted to their respective MTF. This
report will include identification of BW/CW casualties, outbreak of
diseases (cluster cases), and infectious diseases of military
significance. Facilities also need to have an infectous waste
disposal policy.
