                        SECTION III-G-1: MISSION STATEMENTS


                 (U) The mission of the Foreign Material Intelligence
           Battalion    (FMIB)    is   to   conduct    theater     t@hfiical
           intelligence operations for the 5!3th Military Intelligence
           Brigade-in support of COMUSARCENT intelligence requirements.
           Ensure operational readiness of active component technical
           intelligence units and assist operational readiness of
           reserve component units.
                 (U) The Technical Intelligence mission of the JCMEC is
           to    conduct battlefield exploitation of capture           enemy
           equipment to determine its Capabilities iiicitations and
           vulnerabilities and to conduct NBC/Meaical samplin for
           verification of first use to suppb,rt          national     Yevel
           introduction of countermeasures.

                 (U)    In su ort of OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM the
           Forei n Materiel Ipntelligence Battalion was responsible for
           establishing the Joint Collection Materiel Exploitation
           Center.


                           SECTION III-G-II: ORGANIZATION
                        fi?ure III-4 illustrates the composition of the
           FMIB @fter      he    vari'ous  attachments/LNO'?s    had    been
           established thus transforming the unit into the JCMEC. The
           four following j@atagraphs      riefly describe      the    major
           elements of the    MEC organization.
                 fu)    The Ilth Military Intelligence Company provides
           technical hands-on expertise to exploit captured equipment
           as it is evacuated-from the battlefield. A wide range of
           Military Occu ational skills are involved with this hands-on

           history.
