           MEMORANDUM@ SUPCOM Medical Group (Provisional)
SUBJECT: Visit to CARC Paint Site - Dammam Port

           1. On 28 May 91, 1 visited the CARC paint site to fit test
soldiers for wearing respirators (cartridge and supplied air) . The
soldiers were given guidance on proper wear and on conditions which
would di @ alify them from further use.

           2. I advised CPT Roes, 3rd Armor Division (3rd AD), on the need
for doing medical surveillance via blood tests on troops wearing
respirators. I worked with CPT Miller, Safety office, VII Corps,
who supervised the venipuncture performed by VII Corps, 3rd AD,
medics. The blood samples were taken to the 85th Evacuation
Hospital for testing, ie to establish baseline values.

           3. 1 also gave the medics a briefing on treatment protocol for the
           following:

               a. CARC eye splash treatment.

               b. CARC paint contact with skin.

               c. Treatment of Bronchospasm induced by CARC paint.

               d. Treatment/stabilization and call for MEDEVAC in case of
           crush injury by tracked vehicles.

           4. It appears that safety precautions are being followed and
either CPT Gongaware or myself will return to the site to perform
           ongoing evaluations.

           5. If the present procedures are followed, I anticipate no
           significant illness/injury.
