j. After attempting to locate the OIC or NCOIC from VII Corps
for approximately an hour, CPT Gongaware requested that the
painting stop. After CW2 Funk arrived, be was briefed on the above
findings. He stated that they had never been briefed or shown a
copy of the operating procedure.
3. RECOMMENDATIONS;
a. Painting at the site should not commence again until the
location is in compliance with the SOP.
b. A Safety officer should be assigned to each shift whose
sole responsibility is safety.
c. The unit chain of command must enforce the SOP.
4. CLOSING: The safety procedures were established to protect the
health and lives of soldiers. These procedures are required by
numerous Army Regulations to ensure that no one is injured or
exposed to hazardous chemicals. The unit chain of command must
ensure that the procedures are being followed.
