      SUBJECT: Secretary of Defense Request


      1.   The attached vignettes are typical stories of VII Corps soldiers
      who served in Operation Desert Storm. Each of these demonstrates the
      capability and resolve of the American soldier to fight and win. The
      difficulty is selecting a few of the thousands of such stories. The
      soldiers who performed so ma @ ficently in battle and in the
      humanitarian effort that follows are competent, responsible, and
      committed.
