mouth resuscitation and continued until a medic arrived. once
medical assistance was available for the wounded soldier,
Jennings turned her attention to comfort the panicked soldier
whose weapon had accidentally discharged.
9. By 27 March 1991, after pushing 260 kilometers into Iraq,
fuel was in short supply in the lead divisions of the VII Corps.
16th Corps Support Group, 2d COSCOME VII Corps, had found an
additional 46 HEMTT tankers, but needed drivers. Cooks,
mechanics, and supply personnel volunteered. CPT Steve Walker
picked an acting executive officer, a first sergeant, and three
platoon sergeants and organized the ad hoc resupply force for the
150 mile trip to the front. Less than 20% of the personnel were
trained petroleum handlers. They arrived at Ist Armored Division
to a harols welcome. Some of the vehicles refueled were down to
less than a two-hour supply.
10. In Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 159th Corps
Support Group, support is a "family business.'' When Master
Sergeant James W. Lyons, an insurance underwriter in civilian
life, a cook in the US Army Reserves, was ordered to deploy to
Operation DESERT SHIELD, his sacrifice was just a little greater.
Also deployed with the same unit was SPC Dawn D. Lyons, an
administrative specialist and his daughter. SPC Lyons only
finished her Mos training in Tanuary. Enrolled at Montana State
University, her mobilization call came just prior to final exams.
11. 66-year old Doctor (COL) Lewis B. Harned, commander of the
2d COSCOM's 13th Evacuation Hospital, graduated from high school
in 1942. Classified 4F due to poor eyesight, he convinced his
parents to let him join the American Field Service, American
ces for the British ath Army in North
Africa. Arriving in Egypt in 1943, he served in Syria and Italy.
Later, he served during the Korean War. His membership in the
Wisconsin Guard brought him to operation DESERT SHIELD. . . a
reunion of sorts, VII Corps membership includes another alumni of
the North African campaign, the British lst Armored Division, the
Desert Rats.
12. SSG Humphrey A. Fahie was a US citizen for less than a year
when his unit was deployed to Saudi Arabia. A platoon sergeant
in the ist Infantry Division's ist Battalion (APACHE), lst
Aviation Regiment, he has a reputation as a hard-nosed, no-
nonsense leader. Moving up continuously during the four days of
DESERT STOR14, to keep his platoon aircraft operational, SSG Fahie
found no time for sleep, but he accomplished his objective --
five fully mission-capable Apache attack helicopters every day of
the ground attack despite sand, rain, wind, and enemy action.

13. On 27 February 1991, B Company, Task Force 1-41, 2nd Armored
Division (Forward) drew direct enemy fire. When SGT Raymond
Solomon's Bradley caught up to the action, two other Bradley's
were already in flames. Injured soldiers were scattered on the
ground nearby. Without the need for orders, SGT Solomon, a
