EMORANDUM FOR Cdr, VII Corps TAC, ATTN: S3

UBJECT: Reconnissance of Iraqi Ammunition Sites

. 3AD completed the reconnissance of three ammunition sites (IAW
orps Frago 201-91) 091830c April 91. CWa Wesner, Deputy DAD, 3AD
nd a representative from 403rd EOD conducted the reconnissance.

      Site assessments follow:
      a. Site I (QU596978): Iraqi ASP containing thousands of
arious small arms, tank, artillery, mortar, RPS2, and Sagger
ounds. These rounds are mostly loose and unboxed; Estimate it
ould take approximately 170 forty foot trailers &to move all of
t, with 70 soldier working for about one mont
      b. Site 2 (OUS17075): Unit Storage Site containing a few

housand rounds of small arms, mortar and artillery ammunition,
11 in bad condition. Estimate it would take approximately 25 S&Ps
o move it, with 30 soldiers. Ammunition must be reboxed and would
equire two weeks for completion. CBUs were found throughout the
rea. 403rd EOD recommendation is to stay out of this area due to
   anger to soldier safety.
      c. Site 3 (QU813217): Iraqi ASP containing a few thousand
ounds of small arms, mortar and artillery ammunition. The
mmunition is loose and lying around the site. This area is very
ard to assess. It would probably take 25 S&Ps with 30 soldiers a
ew weeks to rebox and clear the area. Area appears to have
Iready had munitions blown up by other Eng/EDD units. 403rd EDD
ecommendation is to stay out of this area due to danger of
   nstable ammunition.

. Recommendation. Only Site 1 should be considered for
pload/transportation of ammunition. Other sites pose substantial
afety risks to U.S. personnel. Recommend Sites 2 and 3 be
argetted for demolition by EOD personnel. Should Corps decide to
e Division will be able to
rovide security for-ces only. DAD assets will be involved in TIER
I ammunition turn-in and redeployment RON site ammunition
