xxxxvl MARCH 1991 Unit Is tasked with performing a crater
anaylisis on the Incident site of the prior nights Scud attack. A
team is sent out to the site and fragments are collected along with
photographs, a hypothesis Is made, report filed and the conclusion
Is forwarded thru channels.
zxlz%7 MARCH 1991 Unit recieves movement warning order to prepare
for movement to Kuwait City. Entire stock of unit equipment is
packed and loaded into trailers and milvan.
xxxxxIO MARCH 1991 0830hrs Unit moves to Kuwait City, begins
encountering thick smoke from burning wells and evidence of ground
war In Khafil, road network destroyed at the Kuwaiti border, tank
traps and minetields begin. 1600hrs Unit arrives at Headquarters
(ARCENT FORWARD COURAND) "Task Force Freedom". Commander meets
with the ist EOD Group Commander and is assigned mission statement:
Develop and operate a Captured Enemy Ordnance Safe Holding Area and
conduct Explosive disposal of the same, dispatch teams into Kuwait
City to clear buildings and bunkers of ordnance and Booby-Traps,
clear refineries of UXOs and Booby traps and assist In minefield
breaching and Intelligence.
mx@x*ll-lg MARCH 1991 Areas of Kuwait and Kuwait City still
holding pockets of resistance, elements of units receiving
sparratic sniper fire. Unit Is receiving and disposing of over
40,000 pounds of enemy ordnance per day. While clearing bunkers on
the beach Kuwaiti civilian steps on a landmine, ILT Fields assists
in the application of tourniquet and first aid measures.
st teams into southern Iraq in the
area of Safwan, (approximately 5 miles south of the city of Basra
and near the Euphrates river). Teams are clearing U.S. sub-
munitions from the surrounding area to protect the civilians, Iraqi
soldiers (prisoners) are being repatriated as clearing operations
are on-going, unit is still using the wedge formation when clearing
open areas because of the of.'enslve capabilities of the enemy
ord.nance and weapons still not collected.
x@mIT7 MARCH 1991 Unit receives movement warning order to relocat@
to Dhahran KSA to prepare for retrograde to U.S. Mission in Iraq Is
turned over to the 66th EOD and the 2@.lst paci@s equipment.
9 APRIL 1991 Un.,t returns to Mira comp,)und in Dhahran and
begins cleaning and pr@paring equipment for storag@ and shipment to
U.S.
zx*@914 APRIL 1991 Customs Inspectors arrive at Mira and unit
conducts showdown of all articles/equiprient returning to U.S.
Milvan is loaded and sealed and vehicles are convoyed to a Saudi
Air Base for cleaning. After cleaning vehicles ar.- then convoyed to
a stagelng area to await transportation to the port.
