xxmz%27 DECEMBER 1990 Unit is assigned living quarters In Khobar
Towers In the city of Khobar. Unit commuted to and from Khobar and
Dammam each day leaving a team behind for the 24 hour response
duty.
xxmzxl JANUARY 1991 (NEW YEARS DAY) Operations Normal.
zxmxx@--15 JANUARY 1991 Unit continues to respond to Incidents and
conduct concurrent reinforcement training.
zzzzxls JANUARY 1991 Unit receives a warning order to relocate
from Khobar. Unit moves to Mira compound In Dhahran KSA, still
maintaining Dammam Expo and area response.
xxxz=17 JANUARY 1991 Unit alerted at 0300 to begin taking
(Pyrogestimlne Bromide) nerve agent pre-treatment tablets. Air War
Begins.
xxxx@IS JANUARY 1991 2300hrs Received radio warning of immenent
SCUO-B attack (first attack of war). Civil Defense sirens sound,
Patriots fire (3), Scud downed, impact is less than 800M from the
221st's position. NBC and security teams dispatched, NBC test
conducted, all clear. Unit notified to respond to downed scud and
inspect for intelligence and explosive hazards.
xxxxxls JANUARY thru 23 FEBURARY 1991 Scud attacks continue
nightly and Into the early mornings, a team Is dispatched after
each impact that occurs in an occupied area. IED response is
steady; approximately every other day. Information summaries
recieved each day indicates EOD as a possible terrorist target and
that a commando attack on the port area Is likely, approximately
120 Iraqi special operations soldiers are captured by the U.S.
shore In the port area. Sniper fire In Jeddah, Threatcon
is Charlie and NBC Threat is Amber. Unit Is tasked with assisting
JCMEC (Joint Captured Munitions Exploitation Center) in t he
ldent I f I cat I on of mun I t I ons and cert I f ying t he same as as f e f or
shipment to the U.S., all captured enemy equipment and ordnance le;
BRDMS, FROG missles etc were searched and inspected for booby-traps
and fire/safe condition.

TIIREAT LEVEL IS RED.

0931hrs Impact, radio message: 221st EOD, Respond to P.A. Army
Reserve Barracks in Daharan, site of Scud attack. 0950hrs SFC
MatthPws, SSG Whiddon dnd SGT Bennefield arrive at site, r@scue
operation in progress, team assist In rescue operation, searching
for @xplosive hazards and gathering intelligence. @@S U.S. Soldiprs
killed and 99 wounded.
