             2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/06/91.

             CHECK AND FIT
             5. (U) OBSERVATION: Not all personnel could be properly fitted
with a protective mask in time to meet airflow.
             6. (U) DISCUSSION: Federalized RCU mask serviceability history
is +air to poor. Common problems included headharnesses which
had lost their elasticity and dry rc-tting of the +acr.?blanl,.
Insufficient time often existed to requisition replacement
masks at Mobilization Station (MS) if needing individuals were
not already identified at HS (Home Station). Hence some units
or individuals could not meet air+low.

             7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: none
             S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Mask serviceability checks are best
done in advance of movement to MS by skilled 54B MOB personnel
outside the unit. Tagged unserviceables may be brought to MS
             for disposition.
Hard-to--Fit soldiers should be identified at HS and names
given to MS prior to arrival along with description of the
             abnormality(ies).
Create a protective mask ASL at installation to allow mask
isition at Mobilization Station.

             9. (U) COMMENTS: none
