               5. (U) OBSERVATION: Criteria for serviceability of BattleDress
               Overgarments CBDO) and Chemical Protective Overgarments (CPO)
               was constantly changed or was simply different, creatina
               confusion in the units.

               6. (U) DISCUSSION: Serviceability +or Storage (in package):
                   In July and August 1990, Fort Riley used pinholes and
               separated seams as unserviceable criteria TAW MSG, Subject:
               Suit, Chemical Protective, BattleDress Overgarment, DTG 251335Z
               Jan 89 to remove unserviceable BDOs and CPOs from installation
               contingency stocks.
                   In Sep 1990, Fort Riley used exposure to ails and water only
               as unserviceable criteria for both BDOs and CPOs IAW TROSCOM MSG
               Subject: Packaging of Chemical Protective Overgarments, DTG
               182345Z Sep 90.
                 Serviceability for wear (out of package):
                   BDOs were termed effective -For 22 days.
                   CPOs effective for 6 hours.

               7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: none

               9. (U) COMMENTS:   Care was taken to deploy all lst ID (M) units
               with two sets of the BDO, disallowing the operational
               difficulties incurred by issuing a mix of BDOs and CPDS
               indicated by the above.
