              2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/06/91.

              3. (U) KEYWORDS: NBC SUPPLY, RWO (REAL WORLD CPS), USA (US ARMY),

              4. (U) TITLEs LOGISTICS: NBC: PROTECTIVE MASK ASL

              5. (U) OBSERVATION: Sufficient protective masks were on-hand at
              installation to meet unit needs for sizing and -Fill of
              requisitions on site.

              6. (U) DISCUSSION: Some 3200 masks were authorized on the TDA
              to support ROTC. This pool served the deployment of the lst
              Division and non-divisional units nigh to depletion.
                  Upon railload in Nov and Dec 90, units shipped all
              unassigned masks by surface. Hence there were no masks -for
              units to issue to later arriving replacements.
                  Since replacements could not be assigned to units without
              the mask, a bubble of some 200+ persons formed at lst
              Replacement Co. The 63 directed additional masks be ordered on
              a dummy DODAAC.
                  In addition, RC units required protective masks +or issue
              and sizing.
                  As a consequence, Fort Riley requested authorization from
              AMCCOM an 14 Dec 90 to obtain fill of requisitions -For a mask
              ASL composed of 124 XS, 348 S, 665 M and 128 L. M17 Series Masks,
              based on a 60 day history of need. The request was honored and
  served its purpose.

              7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: none


              S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Turn in unassigned masks, even
              though TOE item. In-theater replacements to arrive with mask.
