JECT.- Use of Insecticides in VII Corps Units
1. Commanders are reminded that the LTSC- 0-F unapproved insecticides it-)
and around troop living areas is strongly discouraged.
2. Malathion, parathion, and many locally procured insecticides are
carbamate or orgahophosphate compounds. These compounds [..,ill insects
by the same mechanism that causes human injury from chemical warfare
nerve agents. Soldiers who have had enough exposure to 'these
insecticides may die or put themselves at increased ris@-.. of severe
ini@try or death after nerve agent exposure.
3. Unit preventive medicine personnel/field sanitation teams are
qualified to safely handle and use insecticides. They should be
consulted when insecticide use is contemplated.
