MEMORANDUM'THRU Commander, 12th Aviation Brigade, APO New York 09849
FOR Chief of Staff, 101st Airborne Division, APO New York 09309
Subject: battalion Decontamination and Treatment
1. Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) training has taken on added
importance since our alert and deployment to Saudi Arabia. Iraqi
capabilities and experiences in chemical warfare are reason enough to hone
individual and unit skills in decontamination and operations in a NBC
environment.
'2. I am proud of the efforts our unit has demonstrated with this mission
essential training. I am forwarding this memorandum and information
packet to share this work with commanders and staff throughout the
division.
3. The attached packet outlines equipment and personnel requirements for
decontamination operations at battalion level. While it is tailored to an
attack helicopter battalion, the information can easily be adopted for use
by any battalion. Step by step procedures are also written +or the
decontamination of NBC casualties, an area our current doctrine and
manuals fail to address. We have also produced a video tape (VHS) of
these procedures. This should be especially helpful to commanders to
implement measures to raise the confidence level of our soldiers against
the Iraqi threat. The tape will be forwarded after a -F.inal filming is
completed on 14 January 91.
4. My POC's are CW3 Kuwamoto and ILT Reynolds, 3820.
