      MEMORANDUM FOR: 818 Medical Battalion ATTN: Unit Historian


      SUBJECT: Command report (Historical Report)






          The 236th Medical Company (AA) is a helicopter Air Amoulance Company
      consisting of 15 UH-60 BLACKHAWK helicopters. The company is authorized by
      MTOE: 8 Commissioned Officers; 26 Warrant Officers; 95 Enlisted
      Personnel. There are presently assigned: 15 Commissioned Officers; 20
      Warrant Officers;'94 Enlisted Personnel; 5 Civilians. The 236th is
      stationed in Landstuhl, West Germany where its mission is to provide
      medical evacuation for the European Theater. The unit deployed to
      Operation Desert Shield on 4 December 1990. Upon arrival in Saudi Arabia,
      the 236th was the first MEDEVAC unit operational in the 7th Corps Area of
      119 erations. While deployed to northern Saudi Arabia, the 236th provided
      u paralleled support to units arriving in the 7th Corps sector. The 236th
      flew numerous missions along the MSR, more commonly referrec to as
    "-',uicide Road" because of the large number of motor vehicle acc4dents
        curring on that road. The 236th continued to provide support @o units
      .@uring Operation Desert Storm. During the ground campaign 24-28 Feb. the
      236th deployed aircraft into Iraq and Kuwait in support of U.S. and
      coalition Forces. The 236th was on the cutting edge of the battle field,
      picking up patients from as far forward as the FLOT (Forward Line of Own
      Troops). Due to the faster speed and longer range of the UH-60, we were
      called upon numerous times to fly patients from northern Kuwait to EVAC
      Hospitals located in the Corps rear.

          To date, the 236th Medical Company has flown over 470 missions and
      evacuated over 560 patients in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm
      The unit continues to support troops in Iraq and Kuwait, as well as
      supporting the troops in Saudi Arabia. The 236th takes serious the true

      August 2 1991. Iraq invades the country of Kuwait. Several units
      throughout Europe were notified they would be deployed to Saudi Arabia in
      support of Operation Desert Shield. At the time, The 236th Medical
      Company was informed they would be rotated to the Middle East sometime
      around February 1991, to replace our sister company, the 45th Medical
      f'ompany, deployea to Dharan, Saudi Arabia.


      November 7 1990. The 236th Medical Company is given a FRAGO they will
      deploy to Saudi Arabia sooner than originally scheduled.
