and vehicles. LTC Meyers accompanied team members and
dispatched them to 142nd FA BDE to perform the duties
of the S-5.
During operations with the i42nd FA BDE, the following
events took place:
A .In the first staff meeting, CPT Mercado briefed
BDE CDR COL Linch. the BDE'staff and BN CDR's
regarding the CA Eunctions.
B. CA members briefed the CDR, his staff and BN
CDR's on the CA involvement for a total of four
days.
C. Tti7ere were approximately four days the CA team,
the S-1, and-the S-4 remained in-Iraq under the
control'of the BDE XO while the S-2 and S-3
went forward with the BDE CDR and BDE TOC.
D. lLT Hutton wrote the CA annex to the BDE
Oporder.
4. Problems Encountered:
1. TA-312 or unsecured line phones were not
acquirable.
2. CA team could not perform mission of target exclusion
because of its establishment at division level.
3. Communications with Corps G-5 was difficult. ILT
Hutton was never succesful- In reaching the G-5 to
provide his report.
5. Accomplishments:
1. CA team members shared TA-312 and unsecured line
phones with the S-1.
2. Team members voluntarily worked iiitb HHB CDR and
ISG on daily tasks.
6. Recommendation:
In the future, Civil Affairs team members should not be
utilized witfi brigade field artillery due to the
constant "shoot and move" environment.
7. Closing Statement:
Since there were no known civilian populations or towns
in the area of operations., CA members should have
provided assistance to the MP s with the processing of
