      Subject: LOGISTICS GUIDANCE FOR DESERT SHIELD


      I. All units submit to S4, 18th CFG the number of C141s required to deploy
      their unit. This should be reported in the -Form of C141 equivalents and short
      tons of people and'eqltipment.

      Please be advised to deploy with the following:

            Mosquito nets                 Jungle boots
            Lip balm                      Lister bags

            2tubes of new DEET creme -    +or skin
            2bottles sunscreen - +or skin
            Ican Permethrin aerosol - for mosquito netting and bedding
            2NAPP blister packs - for use only when command directed
            3Mark-I nerve agent antidote kits
            2M-258 decontamination kits



      II. The following is a copy of OPERATION DESERT SHIELD MEDICAL AND CHEMICAL
      THREAT, provided to us by the Corps surgeon.

      1. Water and Food Threat:

            Water, ice and food available from the economy is almost uniformly
      contaminated with bacteria, viruses, and parasites to which you have no
      immunity. Typhoid fever and intestinal parasites are common. DO NOT USE LOCAL
      WATER (3RFOO"@ USE ONLY U.S-;Mt                   SOURCES AND MAKE SURE IT IS
      HIGHLY CHLORINATED (5-10 PARTS PER@                DO NOT add Batorade-like or
      Koolaid-like flavoring packets as the additives contained will inactivate the
      usually protective levels of chlorine. The residual chlorine MUST be kept high.
      2. Insect, Spider, Scorpion and Snake Thi@'tjitio*

            9. The most important danger in this category you will encounter is from
      the Sand Fly. This small insect can fly through unprotected mosquito netting.
      The Sand Fly carries many diseases that,,sre truly awful but the ones most common
