     Control and Plans for Combat Operations'. The principal instructors are
     the Battalion Commander and the S-3.



     22 Dec 90: Today is the first staff briefing on the 2ACR OPORD that deals
     with how the Regiment and its support elements will fight the war.


     23 Dec 90: VII Corps Commander directs all units to begin an extensive one
     week maintenance program, especially for engineer equipment.


     24 Dec 90: A Christmas Eve service is held for the Battalion in the HHC
     maintenance tent. Services are hold by the Battalion Chaplain, Chaplain
     (CPT) Roberts. The officers begin a two day OPD on Mobility Drills. A set
     of scenarios are passed out, with each company briefing its solution using
     the sand table brought from port. The Battalion receives the first
     shipment of MILVAN today. It consists of the first eight sent out from
     Bamberg.



     25 Dec 90: The soldiers of the Battalion celebrate Christmas with services
     at each of the companies, officiated by Chaplain(CPT) Roberts and
     accompanied by the Commander. The companies each have large Christmas meals
     with ham, roast beef, and turkey and all the trimmings normally associated
     with the season. 'Near beer' is served as a beverage 'or those who wanted
     it. The rest of the day is reserved for personal maintenance with most
     soldiers using it to shower, wash clothes, write letters to and read the
     letters sent by loved ones. A large shipment of mail arrives today. OPD
     on mobility operations continues.


     26 Dec 90: HHC and C Companies provide equipment and operators to A/5-159
     Aviation Battalion to construct a berm and survivability positions. The
     committment lasts for three days.


     28 Dec 90: C Company again sends equipment and operators out for two days
     to the 4th Transportation Battalion to construct survivalibilty positions.
     OPD is on the C2 (Command and Control) based on modifications to task
     organizations and anticipated missions. Battalion Maintenance meetings are
     conducted daily.


     29 Dec 90: An OPD is hold today at noon by CPT John Cody and ILT Vance
     Stewart, the Battalion Maintenance Officer and the S-1. The OPD is on
     Vehicle Recovery and Maintenance Plan, and Casualty Evacuation. C
     Company begins construction of a full scale training mock-up of Iraqi
     defensive positions. The design is basically the same used in the sand
     table and on the pier at Dammam, but since space is not limited as before,
     this one can be full scale. They manage to lay mines, string wire,
     construct fighting positions with communication tunnels, and build berms in
     only three days.


     30 Dec 90: The scheduled OPD for today is for D Company to 'Demonstrate
     Proofing Techniques' and for CPT Nloulton and SFC Robinson, NBC Officer and
     NCO, to brief the NBC Decontamination Plan.                    .3

     31 Dec 90: At noon, the S-4 gives an OPD on 'Logistics and Resupply'. The
     companies of the Battalion each hold New Year's Eve celebrations to the
