than one trip to Iraq each night. Coming out of their heavy
revetments and lining up on the taxiways for take off, they
look like bees coming out of a hive. Two EF-Ills take off
first to prepare the way by jamming enemy radar. These are
then followed by the bombers. The troops have complete
access to the planes, ground crews and pilots. The pilots,
quiet and professional, tell us that the first phase of the
air war was intended to make it safe for them to fly by
eliminating the enemy's aircraft, air defense, and command
and control elements. Now the second phase has begun. The
Air Force is striking munitions depots and concentrations of
enemy armor to prepare the way for a ground offensive by our
troops.
