         1776th MP Co 25 June 1991

MEMC%NDUM FOR Director, Operations and Training, COL LaCbance
SUBJ ECT: After Action Report, Redeployment Key Issues, 1776th MP Company
         1. The following observations and lessons learned were made regarding
activities during Redeployment to CONIUS for the 1776th Military Police ccnpany.
         2. General Description. The unit started the redeployment phase while located
in Iraq one month prior to leaving SWA. The 311th MED BDE conducted advance
physicals on 98% of the soldiers in the unit. This saved tine once we arrived
at Ms. 7he first group of soldiers arrived at the MS on 1 KkY 91 and out
processed in 3 1/2 days and then moved to none Station. The second element
arrived at MS on 10 May 91 and departed on 16 MAY 91. All equipment and
vehicles (adnus weapois) are still in SWA and a-re due in CONUS in late July 91.
         3. Lessons Learned/Short Falls.

libe out processing at the MS was very fast and furious, which resulted in
the following lessons learned and short falls:
               a. Pay issues. The unit is now receiving several phone calls a day
from soldiers with pay questions from their final pay. Most soldiers feel they
did not receive all pay entitlements, and the LES's will not be sent to the
soldiers for another two months. Some other minor problems which have all been
         resolved.

               b. DD Form 214. Several soldiers did not have all the correct
information on the form and the MS would not add certain information. They were
not thoroughly reviewed or completed, which is now causing proble.,ns at the unit
level. Several soldiers 214's were reviewed late the night before we were to
leave the MS, and the transition point rushed the soldiers and did not allow
them the opportunity to thoroughly review their paper work. All soldiers did
receive a 214, and rest of @-he problems are being handled at the unit level, if
         possible.

               c. Dental and Medical Physicals. Most soldiers feel that the physicals
they received in SWA and at the MS were inadequate and rushed. The MS did not
take tiie time to conduct a very through dental and physical examination and
several soldiers are npw experiencing problems. I)ere is also confusion as to
where soldiers should send bills and other paE:@-r work for dental and in--dical
         work coinplett@d after leaving MS.
               d. 'rhe overall demobilization process was very rushed, and I feel all
five days were needed for out processing. The soldiers wanted to get home and
a,,iay from the Army life and the MS wanted to get tis out the door and I)ack under
tiie control of ttie MI ARNC;. I expressed several o!-her minor d-anoi)iliza@-ioll
         issues at the N(;B C(xnmanders Debriefing, 19-21 14AY 1991.
