SUBJECT: Request for Award (Page 2)
2. All of the individuals listed Performed meritoriously on numerous
missions each. The missions performed were to ambulance exchange points,
battalion aid stations or forward supported companies as needed in unarmed
aircraft. The missions were flown in combat and within range of enemy fire
to include surface to air missles, antiaircraft artillery, indirect fire
weapons, and in some instances direct fire and small arms fire. All missions
were flown in UH-1 Medevac Helicopters which are unarmed and have no active
defensive capability. Most of the missions flown were single or dual ship
missions at best with no additional security provided. Clearly these
missions meet the criteria for the awarding of the Air Medal. These missions
were accomplished with distinction beyond that normally expected of air
crews.
